NEWS UPDATE - September 25

If you can read, you can learn anything…

The gift of education, of being able to read and write, is maybe one which we take too much for granted in the western world. Education is open to all, and the majority of children in the west learn to read and write to the best of their ability without their parents worrying about if they can afford to pay for that education, for the buildings they are educated in, for the teachers who do the educating. Parents do not have to worry about supplying books at primary level. If funds are such that lunches cannot be provided most parents are supported by governmental support and children do not go unfed. We even have funded breakfast club schemes to ensure children get a good start to the day.

Sadly this is not so in Rwanda and Uganda, poorer families cannot always afford to educate their children, even at nursery and primary level. Secondary level education is often abandoned as young people realise they need to work to feed themselves and their family, and university education is often just a pipedream, with only the very richest or able, achieving a place. Too many children start their day without breakfast.

The CHI sponsorship programme enables children to go to school without those worries - school materials, fees, lunches and uniforms are provided. We understand however that sponsorship is not the only way to support learners and CHI supports several schools through its School Partners funds, where schools themselves are able to use the funds for the benefit of the children, be it buying lunches, uniforms or learning resources. Thank you to those who already support the School Partners programme - if anyone would like to know more please contact the office

Thank you so much for your support and prayers

The response to the Tumba Little Feet appeal has been overwhelming. It was a blessing to to be able to offer funding for over 30 more nursery places. On behalf of the parents of Tumba we extend our thanks to the supporters who have helped fund these extra places. As an added bonus this will also give employment to another nursery teacher.

The Youth Camp in Uganda has just finished; thanks to the amazing generosity of you, the CHI supporters, CHI were able to fully fund the 60 places allocated. CHI has also been able to supply extra bibles and hymn books for use by the sponsored children at their Saturday Project.

Photos will follow!

Thank you everyone for your support and prayers for the work of CHI
