CHI GOATS REALLY ARE THE G.O.A.T

Writer: CarmenCarmen

Gifts of livestock to the poorest in the communities, really help them to improve their lives in a manner they could not conceive achieving on their income. Many do casual labour, only earning the equivalent of £1 a day, so to purchase a goat at £40 or even a hen at £5 is way beyond their means.

CHI have been present for the gifting of goats and the joy on the faces of the recipients is overwhelming. A goat transforms their lives and breaks the cycle of poverty, they can sell the offspring (after gifting the firstborn kid to another family as thanks to God), use the manure to fertilise their crops, thus improving their financial situation and enabling them to feed the family a more nutritious diet, pay school fees and health insurance, all things which will improve their mental and physical well being.

Many of our sponsors send small extra financial gifts to their children; the children/family are counselled on how best to spend the money. When CHI visit the children we are so happy to see that many have bought chickens and goats, and traded up to pigs and sometimes even a cow. These seemingly small gifts turn into huge life changers.

The CHI ethic of helping impoverished communities become more self sustaining has led CHI to supply parishes in two Dioceses with milling machines. These strip the corn from the cobs and can then grind them into flour. These machines enable the parishioners to mill their own maize without having to travel to distant parishes. The community will also benefit by providing the service at a fair price to other communities.
