NEWS UPDATE - AUGUST 2026

YOUNG OR OLD - GOD CARES

This month our prayer diary focuses on Youth Mission. Bringing young people to Jesus is an incredibly important type of evangelism. Making them feel comfortable with their faith, teaching them to pray openly and with confidence, helping them understand their relationship with God and its importance to their lives, all of these are vital skills for young people to learn in order to enhance their journey of faith.

Relating to young people on this level requires an amazing level of skill and understanding of the youth culture today. Something which Patrick - our partner in Uganda - does with alacrity and skill.

Having moved earlier this year to a new parish, he has already organised a youth camp to be held in Misanvu (his new parish) later this month. 480 children and youth have already registered interest. The sponsored children from his former parish of Kijjabwemi have been invited too. The cost of the 4 day camp, with full board, activities and skills training will be £8 per child. This is equivalent to a week’s wages in Uganda and could be beyond the reach of many. Could you fund a place for a child to attend this ministry? Giving them access to a safe space, positive role models and ethical leadership skills is such a valuable investment for the future of the church. Please consider donating to this venture, no matter how small the donation, the investment will increase exponentially under God’s care.

During our visit to Rwanda in June, we were deeply moved by the plight of the elderly - lonely, vulnerable and with little hope. With no government support available, their care depends on family, or where there is none, the church and neighbours who are often struggling themselves.

In Kigeme Diocese, a mid-week, lunchtime service enables elderly people to travel safely in daylight. They feel valued and cared for, and each month the church provides a small gift of soap and food. Though modest, this support brings hope and dignity to those who have given so much, during their lives.

In our travel blog, we suggested “sponsoring” an elderly person for just £5 a month. This regular gift would help the church to reach more elderly parishioners with essential care packages, offering hope, dignity and the reassurance that they are not forgotten.

We know these are challenging financial times for many of us. But if you are able, would you prayerfully consider supporting an elderly person? Together, we can be the hands and feet of Christ, bringing hope, dignity and love to those who need it most. Thank you
