The Nurse+ project continues to support 5 nurses, Brigitte, Francoise and Sophie in Shyogwe, Rwanda and at Kimwanyi Clinic in Uganda we continue to support Grace and a new addition to the Nurse+ family - Eleazar Kanyulya. The clinics, run and supported by the Anglican church, bring much needed care and support to the huge rural communities they serve. Bringing the word of God to work with them, trying to debunk a lot of the traditional medicinal remedies, and generally caring for those in need of medical or mental intervention. The clinics and people are so very grateful for the financial assistance give by the supporters through CHI. Without your help, this work would no longer happen and God’s word would be lost to many. Thank you

KIMWANYI CLINIC - UGANDA

Grace is still our midwife/nurse at Kimwanyi Clinic and we were delighted to meet her first born, a son (now 1 year old) whilst we visited the clinic earlier this year. Grace lives a 30 minute drive from work. She brings her son with her to work, and they often stay at the nurse’s accommodation after a long shift.
She related a story of a 17 year old mother coming to the clinic in the second stage of labour. The birth went well and a healthy baby boy was born, but afterwards the poor girl started bleeding and Grace was unable to stop it, she said it was terrifying both to herself and the young mother. Eventually Grace stabilised her but a few moments later the mother went into shock. Grace called in the relations, but they had given up hope. She asked them to join her in prayer, the praying gave them hope and reassurance, the mother recovered and the family knew that God had listened to them. They were strengthened by what their faith had manifested. The mother and baby were later discharged, both in good health.
Had the situation not improved then the mother would have been transferred to the main hospital in Masaka (a 30 minute drive), but Grace’s faith and prayer avoided this.
In the first 6 months of this year Kimwanyi has seen 22 mothers delivered at the clinic with a further 7 being referred to the main hospital. Overall 212 mothers-to-be have attended the ante-natal classes held at Kimwanyi. The clinic offers full post natal care, administering vital immunisations, weight checks and nutritional/child care advice.

Eleazar joined Kimwanyi earlier this year and has made a great start helping both in the walk-in clinic and out in the community, where he has shared his faith, insisting that they should have faith and trust God, as He is ever healing the sick of their ailments physical and spiritual, so that they will heal too. He tells them “God’s love and protection will heal you through the power and blessing He lays in my hand to serve you well". “Thank you CHI for enabling me to continue reaching out and helping those in pain.”

GIKOMERO CLINIC, SHYOGWE, RWANDA
Gikomero Clinic in Shyogwe continues to be a very busy clinic, dealing with maternity, accident and emergency cases, as well as the nurses going out into the community teaching good health and hygiene practice. They also help spread God’s love through the work they do. CHI supports 3 nurses in Gikomero clinic

Francoise is a single parent to 3 children as her husband died some time ago. Her nursing service is guided by her trust in God. While dealing with vulnerable patients she says she looks to God for wisdom and hope, especially when resources are limited. Although the walk to the health centre from her home is 7.2 km, she sees it as part of her calling to serve God through serving others.
Her work in the clinic includes administering vaccines to children, family planning advice and general consultations with adults and children. She has scanned over 3500 adults for treatment for non communicable diseases such as heart problems, cancers, diabetes, with over 2500 of them needing follow up treatment. A busy lady!

Sophie is married with 2 daughters and a son. Her main area of nursing is with family planning, and she particularly focuses on the adolescents, teaching them about sexual health and reproduction. Her work as a nurse allows her to serve God by caring for the sick with love and compassion. Despite her long 5km walk to the clinic every day, her faith motivates her to continue serving with dedication She also helps Francoise with her clinics. She has seen over 5000 patients in the past 6 months.

Brigitte has been supported by CHI for many years. She is married with a 9 year old daughter. Her main area of service is within the Outpatients Dept where she dealt with over 2400 patients in the past 6 months. When faced with difficult cases and worried families, she depends on God to remain calm and supportive. She walks 11km daily to the health centre and believes God sustains her strength to serve the community faithfully.
Rwanda still has a high incidence of TB and Brigitte is proud that there had been only 4 confirmed incidents dealt with at the clinic this year.

She also takes time to give education on sexual health and family planning to sex workers in the local area. In addition she also helps a group of 60 former sex workers re-join ‘acceptable’ Rwandan society, teaching them about Christ their saviour and helping them and their children become Christians. Brigitte also runs ‘classes’ teaching women craft skills to help them earn their own living and improve their lives.

The nurses and the communities they serve are very appreciative of the support that they receive, via CHI Nurse+, from yourselves. Your support enables them to continue the good work of healing and helping in their communities whilst showing the importance of our God who heals.
