Lazy Sunday Afternoon

Yesterday we asked Pacific if he could take us to the service at Holy Trinity Cathedral, Kibagabaga as he doesn’t live far from the guest house. He is a lovely, intelligent man who would like to become a pastor, and we have become friends over the last few days. We asked, will your family be coming? Normally they would, he said, but as I will be driving you it will be difficult, he has an 8 seater car and three children!!!! But there is room we said slightly puzzled. The surprise on his face was a picture, what, we travel together? Of course we told him, his face lit up, then they will come he said. How very sad that he felt he could not bring his family in the same car as the muzungu.
So, this morning we all attended the Kinyrwandan service together, although once we arrived, we were reluctantly escorted to the front to sit in the seats reserved for important visitors!!!

A surprise meeting with the now retired Bishop Francis of Cyangugu who we met in 2024 did mean we had a translator each though.
Chantal Mbanda greeted us warmly, she had been busy and unable to accompany us on any of our visits, so this was our one and only meeting and by the time we return Archbishop Manda will have retired.

We prefer the Kinyrwandan service, it tends to be livelier than the English services and also happens later in the morning, although it does tend to last longer, today was a moderate 3 hours. This church boasts five choirs, but just one choir, the Worship Team, and the Sunday School Choir, which includes some of our sponsored children, sang today.
It was odd to see the drummer in a glass box in the corner, we can only assume this is part of the noise control measures.

We said a sad farewell to Josiane, our field assistant monitoring the sponsored children here. She has looked after us so well and obviously cares greatly for all the children, we are optimistic that the challenges this project has faced over the last year or so are now behind us.

Pacific kindly dropped us ‘home’ and once this blog is posted we will be taking an afternoon off.
