Balls and Borders

Today we were packed and ready to go by 8am. Breakfast of battered boiled eggs was certainly different.

We had discovered last night that the young lady in the bakery next door, whose praises we had been singing to the bishop, had previously been sponsored by CHI, so we dropped in to have a quick chat before saying goodbye. Her name is Ange Teta Ineza and she told us how she was working and saving as she hoped to continue studying at college and possibly qualifying in the medical profession.

All too soon Robert arrived to take us to the border. We are always sad to leave Byumba and this was no exception. Having said goodbye to the Eden House team we were on the road again.

Ten o’clock found us at the border where Rev Canon Patrick and Eriab, Uganda’s best driver, were waiting to collect us.  It was the first opportunity we had had to introduce them to Robert, who is actually Ugandan, and it was good to see they connected very well.

A few photos, a sad farewell to Robert, a short discussion with the border authorities over the copious tennis balls they could see in Pauline's case, they didn’t even notice the scythe she had hidden away!!! And we were off.

The journey from the border takes about 7 hours, plus a short stop for refreshments, and we cross a time zone and lose an hour on the way.

The sights and sounds of Uganda are comfortingly familiar, and so different to the new Rwanda.

As the sun sets on another day we are aiming for an early night and looking forward to whatever tomorrow brings.
