Federance and her twin children were abandoned by their father when they were young. Federance was left to raise them on her own, and she struggled to make ends meet. She lived in rented accommodation, and she was often evicted for being unable to pay the rent. Completely hopeless she considered suicide, only the love of her children staying her hand.
Her local church supported her and recommended her children for sponsorship to us. She was so grateful that they were both sponsored that she gave her life to Christ. But whilst sponsorship lifts a financial burden from families, this wasn’t enough to stop Federance and the twins from continuing to be evicted. During one of the home visits by our field assistant, she asked for prayer about her housing situation. We relayed her prayer request to the children’s sponsor who was so moved by Federance’s story that she used £5,000 of a recent inheritance to pay for a house to be built for Federance and the twins.
She wrote a letter to the sponsor, expressing her gratitude:
Dear [Sponsor Name],
Greetings to you in the precious name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. How are you and your family in these hard times of the pandemic?
We are very happy and surprised to have our prayers answered. We are very much excited for the great news that we received about the construction of a house for us.
It has been a very long time when we have been struggling with renting issues. Renting without any regular source of income has been one of the worst trials that I have ever met in my life which also affected my children’s education. Sometimes a month would pass by before I earned enough rent for the month and we would have to go and search for another place far from where my children were at school. This continual changing of schools really set them back.
There was a time we stayed in a certain place and the landlady sent us away because she claimed my children shout for her. This terrified me, wondering how we were going to get another place in a very short period of time without any money.
I kept on praying and sharing my prayer request with my friends. This was answered when you began paying rent for me. I was stable in one place at least for a period of time and I began to regain some hope. And now I know where I shall live!
I have come to learn that God answers our prayers though I may take a long time but we shall be answered and in ways we may not think of.
There are no words that I may use to let you know of how grateful I am upon knowing that I am going to be stable in my own home. All that I can tell you is that I will live to pray for the blessings of God upon all you plan to do and for your protection. I am very much grateful and thankful.
May God bless you."
Praise God for the generosity of that sponsor! £5,000 is much more than we would ever spend on any one individual. As much as we would love to, we just don’t have the funds. We need to use our resources wisely on the things that will give the most benefit to the most amount of people.
This is just one example of how a sponsor’s kindness can make a real difference in the lives of children and families in need and give them hope for the future.
