Educational Equipment - £5
A school classroom An educational pack

Educating the young, is vital.

Unfortunately, the equipment at the School and the high quality of the education we receive in the United Kingdom are not necessarily available everywhere.

Why not purchase one or more packs of educational equipment for school children in Africa or India? This can make such a difference to a child.

For every pack purchased CHI will add a copy of one of the Gospels, allowing each child the opportunity to receive the real message of HOPE

Add a pack of pens, pencils, rubbers and rulers for school children in Africa or India, costs £5.00

Bibles - £10
A bible A bible

What better gift to give someone than the Word of God?

To our surprise in our recent visit to Africa (March 2009) we were asked exclusively for Bibles in English.
This is because Rwanda is moving from a French education system to an English curriculum. This being the case, we bought 72 hard back Bibles in Kampala and distributed them in Byumba diocese, Kigali Diocese and Kigemi Diocese.

Now you can give a gift of a Bible to an adult or child you may never meet, until that day in Heaven when they come up to you and thank you for a wonderful gift that made such a difference in their lives.

Mosquito Nets & Malaria Treatments - £5 & £10

During our trip to Uganda (March 2009) we visited the clinic at Kimwanyi Health Centre where we are sending the funding for mosquito nets and treatments. They informed us that during the past 12 months around 80% of all cased treated in the clinic were malaria related! We left 4 nets with the clinic and $400 for new nets and medication. Thank you!

Just look at these statistics:

A report from the World Health Organization gave the following estimates for 2006:

  • 247 million cases of malaria
  • 881,000 deaths
  • 91% of deaths were in Africa
  • 85% of deaths were children under 5

Through our contacts in Uganda we know that we can provide treatment for malaria for a child or adult for around £5.

Prevention is better than cure and so we can also provide treated mosquito nets for just £10.

The Nets and Treatment are provided through Kimwanyi Health Centre which is church founded and managed. Recent figures show that since this project started cases of Malaria have dropped by over 40% in this area.

Bursary Project - £10

School buildings

Many of the schools in Africa and Asia have few, if any facilities. We have seen schools that don't have blackboards, don't have desks, have little or no writing paper and where pencils and pens are like gold dust.

Christian Hope International works in Africa and India, helping schools provide a basic education to children who otherwise would receive none.

  • In Rwanda we have built classrooms for schools, provided basic teaching materials, desks, chairs and even electric lighting.
  • In Burundi we have provided a school bus, basic teaching materials and school books, desks and chairs.
  • In other countries we have helped build classrooms, replace school roofs and provided the fees for children to attend school.

If you would like to help a school, please donate to our Bursary Project, thereby allowing us to improve the facilities that in many places are almost non-existent.

Donate the sum of £10 to our Bursary Project (larger donations can be made by increasing the quantity)

Container Aid to Africa - £5
Loading a container in the UKUnloading in the Sudan

Christian Hope International (formally Containers of Hope) has sent around 70 containers overseas since the Mission was born in 1994.

Currently it costs around £6,000 to send a container overseas. This includes the purchase of the container itself (these always stay at the destination) and the Transport to the destination, nearly always Africa.

We have calculated that £20 will send a container around 30km nearer its destination.

Do you want to be part of this project?

Egg-laying Chickens for Families in Africa - £5
Children's partyChildren holding hens chicken distribution

Chickens give eggs!

Even young children in the UK (who may only have seen chickens roasted on the table or frozen chickens in the cabinets at Tescos) know that.

But most people are unaware that there are other benefits of keeping chickens - apart from the early morning wake-up call....

Chickens - even fed on scraps - produce a high quality compost. Whilst this may be considered messy in the UK - in Africa it is a significant benefit for families whose meager plot of land is farmed all year round.

Our partners in Shyogwe, Rwanda sent us the photos on the right showing the hens for distribution and the recent “egg-laying hen distribution and training day”.

If you would like to support this project click on the box below and fill in your details.

(I think the egg-laying hens are Rhode Island Reds)

Goats for Africa - £30
A goatA goatA goat

Goats in Africa look like real goats. confusingly African sheep also look like goats......

There is a difference though; goats are easier to keep and will eat any and everything (including clothing on a washing line, old shoes, etc.)

The price of goats in Africa has gone up considerably over the past years, and the drop in Sterling value (the UK pound) has further driven up the price. The high price also reflects the fact that we ensure that the goats we pass on have been properly inoculated.

However, goats are very important to many families in Africa, providing milk for the family and goodness for the crops.

To own a goat is vital to so many who live entirely off the land.

The goats are simple to look after, but to a family living on the bread line, it is almost impossible to purchase and own one.

Your gift will be sent to St. Peters College to enable them to select and then provide a goat to a needy family.

Donate £30 to provide a goat.

Vocational Tools - £15
A tool box and bricks

Our partners in Africa are increasingly asking for tools to enable carpentry, building, electrical, and plumbing skills to be taught in vocational training centres. These skills are desperately needed in Africa and training not only increases the young peoples ability to earn a living but also to provide a service to the local community.  A donation towards a box of tools will give real hope for the future to those who benefit from this training.

One of the biggest differences between Children growing up in Africa and in the UK is the education they can expect to receive. Here in the UK, education up to the age of 16 is free and compulsory. Even college and A’Level studies are free.

In many countries in Central Africa, primary level education is generally free - but the far more expensive secondary level is not. This is a major reason children do not continue studies and receive a school leavers certificate.

A second reason is that primary level education which many start at 6 or 7 years old might not finish until the child is in his or her middle teens. Whilst visiting Uganda we were introduced to teenagers who were still at Primary School at the age of 17.

Christian Vision Uganda (CVU), a Uganda registered charity, realised that there was an urgent need to help children who could not go on to secondary education, especially those orphaned.

The vision was to create a Vocational Centre where practical skills could be taught, enabling young people to learn a profession. Revd. Jackson Kasozi (a former Christian Hope International trustee) heads up CVU and is overseeing the construction of the centre.

The building work started in May 2008 and since that time steady progress has been made. Following our urgent appeal in Dec 2010 we are pleased to announce that the roof is now on.

In partnership with Christian Vision Uganda, Christian Hope International want to help fund the construction and equipping of this Vocational Centre.

We want to help CVU finance the construction phase, then, as funds allow, we will further assist by sending a container of equipment to Kibaale from our warehouse.

Help support a Nurse for a clinic in Africa

Facts:

  • There is only 1 nurse for every 2,500 people in Rwanda or 1,430 people in Uganda, compared to an average in the whole of Africa of 1 for every 900 people.
  • Nurses in Africa not only provide general health care, advice and immunisation, they are increasingly involved in HIV/Aids treatment.

We have been working successfully on projects in partnership with Clinics in Rwanda and Uganda for many years. They would dearly love to add another nurse to their teams. They could then make a greater impact, not only in the clinic, but also in the community to prevent malnutrition, improve hygiene and treat those suffering from TB and HIV/Aids

As this project involves employment, CHI intends to provide funding for at least one year. Obviously, we would hope to continue for much longer. Would you or your group be prepared to make a regular payment (any sum)  or a single donation towards this project? It may even be something that your church or work colleagues would like to get involved with.

As part of the Nurse + scheme the nurse would write to supporters three times a year to let them know how things are going, the joys, the challenges and the prayer needs. Supporters would, if they wished, be able to write back.

What would it cost? Well, if 31 people committed just £6 each every month we could provide a nurse. Could you help us support one or even two!!

To make a donation to this project please click the link, if you would like to make a regular commitment please contact the office and a standing order form will be sent to you.

Banana Fibre Cards
An African card

In Africa, Mother's Union Groups, church groups and co-operative workers make cards from the bark of the banana tree.

These cards are then sold on to visitors to help finance other projects in the area or diocese.

It can take a person up to 3 years to learn the art of making these cards, and each card is individual and a work of art in its own right.

We sell cards singly at £1.00 each or in packs of 3 together with envelopes for the sum of £2.50.

In order to cover our costs, we can only sell cards on line with minimum order of £5. This means we will send you two packs of 3 cards for £5..

When ordering please state how many lots of £5 you require.
