Our aim is to alleviate suffering. This can be done in many ways, some immediate and short term, some longer term requiring a commitment over server al years.
This is how we started, and whilst it is a smaller part of our ongoing work, we still send out container to Africa (mainly) two or three times a year.
Our most recent container was sent to Rwanda, before that to Uganda.
Our containers contain a million different items requested by the recipient.
If you want to help - or have an item to you feel might be appropriate overseas, keep an eye on this page as we will soon be adding a list of "ITEMS WANTED" for our next container.
This has always been a part of our life as a mission. The very first containers contained clothing for refugees. Whilst we no longer send second-hand clothes overseas, we still send thousands of knitted items overseas, both to Africa, India and Eastern Europe each year either in containers of through one of our mission partners. The Ray of Hope project- started in 1997- is an ongoing mission to encourage individuals, families and groups to sponsor a child or young adult through a Christian education. They take on the responsibility of financially supporting the child/children on a regular basis. There is no minimum length for this support, but if it can be for a number of years a relationship can be built up between the sponsor and the child/children overseas. Click HERE for more details.
This is one of the newer developments at CHI. Whilst we have always been willing to assist churches and groups overseas, we have now established contacts with churches, diocese and lay groups in Africa and India. Through these contacts we have been involved in providing water to villages in India, school equipment and rooms in Africa, homes for the blind in India along with two orphanages (now entirely run by Christian Hope India).
